Anne Carson, a Canadian poet and essayist, has won the Nobel Prize in literature. The Swedish Academy recognized her for her bold and inventive work that engages with classical traditions to create new forms. Carson, who was in Iceland when she received the news, often draws on ancient Greek and Roman themes. The 76-year-old author's notable works include "Eros the Bittersweet" and "Autobiography of Red." The prize was announced in Stockholm. The Nobel Prize week concludes with the peace prize announcement on Friday, followed by the economics prize on Monday. The prize money this year is 12 million Swedish kronor (about $1.2 million).
