The Latest: Trump rejects Iran’s latest response to ceasefire proposal ahead of his trip to China

Iran and the United States have reached an impasse again over how to end their war while their ceasefire grew increasingly shaky. The two sides have exchanged fire in recent days, ships and Gulf states have been targeted, and fighting flared between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. President Donald Trump said Sunday that Iran’s response to his latest proposal was “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump will travel to Beijing this week for a rescheduled summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump also said Monday that he would indefinitely suspend the federal gas tax, though Congress must approve the move.
