Hurricane Polo has grown into one of the most powerful Pacific cyclones in decades and is expected to skirt Mexico’s southwestern coast as a major hurricane. U.S. forecasters say Polo is an “extremely dangerous” storm with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. It was centered early Wednesday near Mexico about 185 miles south of Zihuatanejo and 335 miles southeast of Manzanillo. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says the hurricane is not expected to come onshore. Another Pacific system named Odalys has strengthened from a tropical storm into a hurricane. Early Wednesday, Odalys was about 1,295 miles off the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico moving east-northeast.
