The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is implementing a new system called Wait-Well.
The system is meant to create better communication between people and the DMV as well as make the process quicker and easier.Â
The new system allows people to schedule appointments online and receive text updates to let them know when the DMV will be ready to service them.Â
It also makes it much easier to cancel an appointment.Â
"Now with wait well sending out all of these new messages to people using our pilot services at the offices that we've tried it, we've seen those books open way, way up." said Eli Rohl, The Nevada DMV Public Information Officer. "And I believe in Reno you can get an appointment within the next week. It really makes that dread of oh no I have to go to the DMV it's going to take me two months to get in there, it's non-existent."
Another change that will be made is that you will be able to take the written part of the driver's test online instead of in person.
Rohl said that this alone has already created many more openings.Â
Reno Resident, Anthony Giombetti, had this experience with the new system. "There was no line, and I was like, this is strange. Then somebody walked up and told me this is how you do it, you scan it with your camera, Boom. It's all on your phone, they text you. I mean, I think it's good."
The new system will be in full effect by the middle of April.
They also hope that eventually, people will only need to visit the DMV for a new driver's license photo.Â
