The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation is rolling out its 2026 Summer Youth Internship Program and is calling on businesses across the state to take part by hosting fully funded internships for students with disabilities.

The Summer Youth Internship Program connects students with disabilities to short-term, real-world work experiences during the summer, giving them a chance to gain early career exposure, build professional skills, and explore potential job interests.

This year’s program will place interns ages 17 to 22, as defined in NRS 388.5223, in four-week internships running from July 13 through August 7.

The program is funded through the Vocational Rehabilitation division, which covers all interns’ wages and workers’ compensation. Participating businesses also receive disability awareness training and ongoing support from department staff to help maintain accessible and inclusive worksites.

“By participating in SYIP, businesses contribute to a more inclusive workforce while benefiting from the energy, creativity, and fresh perspectives interns bring to their worksites,” BVR Deputy Administrator for Programs, Mechelle Merrill, said. “By opening their doors, employers help students build confidence, develop professional skills, and explore career pathways.”

Businesses that take part will also be recognized as Disability Inclusion Partners for their role in supporting workforce diversity and inclusion.

Employers interested in hosting interns can complete an Employer Interest Form by May 25.
