Governor Joe Lombardo and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert hosted a press conference and tour at Mater Academy Mountain Vista in Las Vegas.
The event was to announce the Acing Accountability initiative to track and determine whether education funding is resulting in improved student outcomes.
During the 2023 Nevada Legislative Session Governor Lombardo signed a $2.6 billion increase in K-12 funding bringing the total education budget to $12 billion.
With the historic budget, Governor Lombardo has said since the start of his term that there needs to be transparency and accountability.Â
"As I stated in January along with this funding, I expect results. I won't accept a lack of funding as an excuse for poor performance," said Governor Joe Lombardo.
The impact of the new funding will be measured on yearly student performance outcomes over the next two years and stacked up against the baseline student results from last school year.
The State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) is responsible for evaluating each district based on the following measures:
- To what degree are school districts effectively implementing reading and mathematics resources?
- To what effect are K-3 students demonstrating progress toward mastering literacy?
- Are grade 4-8 students demonstrating proficiency in mathematics?
- Are high school graduates prepared for success in college or a career?
- And, to what effect are districts using innovative solutions to meet the needs of every student?
"Students should be meeting or exceeding their personalized goals. The tools that we use measure each and everyone of our students," explained Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert
The accountability measures will be reviewed based on a continuum of: exceeding, meeting, approaching, or failing to meet the expectations.
