The Elko Police Department arrested 37-year old Donald Rosenauer from Elko for open murder on Friday, January 3.
The charge stems from a child abuse investigation that began on New Year's Eve.
On December 31, Elko Police were contacted by the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital regarding an 7-month old girl who was brought into the ER and was unresponsive.
Elko Police Detectives interviewed both the mother and father of the child, who claimed that the infant rolled off of a couch, leading to her injuries.
Medical staff reported that the girl was suffering from a brain bleed, hemorrhaging in both eyes and bruising to the chest - injuries consistent with a traumatic event.
The detectives found that Rosenauer was alone with the girl when the injuries happened, leading to her death.
The infant was flown to Salt Lake City for advanced care, but was taken off of life support on January 3.
