The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT), the Nevada Division of Forestry, and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District will continue pile burning on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe this week, weather permitting. 

Smoke will be visible in the area.

The agencies will monitor the weather beforehand, as well as conduct test burns and post signs on roadways affected by prescribed fire operations. 

According to TFFT, prescribed fires can protect communities by removing fuels for unwanted fires, as well as making room for new forest growth. 

Pile burning involves burning slash piles that are constructed by hand or machines.
