We've been experiencing some higher temperatures over the past several days.
With that, we've been seeing power outages for thousands of people at a time.
With higher heat comes additional usage of the power grid as people use their air conditioners more.
NV Energy says when they see extreme heat they have additional crews on standby.
“What we have seen is nothing out of the ordinary, while there have been a few isolated outages," said Katie Nannini, Director of Corporate Communications for NV Energy. "Overall, our system has performed well."
“Making sure energy is available when people need it is one of our main concerns," she adds. "We have crews on standby and we’ve had a few isolated outages. Nothing out of the ordinary but we are prepared to respond when we need to. We always are 24/7 every single day of the year.”
Some of the things you can do to minimize your energy usage are keeping your temperature at home at 78 degrees when you're not there.
Make sure your blinds are shut, operating your dishwasher or doing laundry in the evening.
Make sure your appliances are on energy-saving mode and make sure the lights are off when you're not using them.
“With additional heat, it does strain our system and so when our system does have additional use such as air conditioners which take a lot of energy to run that strain can increase usage and that extra load certainly puts a demand that’s not typical on our system,” Nannini says.
