Recent events across the nation may be causing some folks to worry about their home's security. The Reno Police Department shared a few ways to avoid becoming a target by those who have malicious intent.

It can be done in a number of ways, including adding a home surveillance system. This can be as simple as picking up a single camera at the store and installing it, to having a security company come and install a higher tech and more comprehensive system.

Police stress that it does not have to be one option or another, and what works for one house may not be what another is looking for. Though, they note that if a crime is committed, having cameras is incredibly beneficial in identifying suspects, and creating more evidence.

They also said things like posting a 'beware of dog' sign, even if someone doesn't have a dog, can be a deterrent. That also goes for posting a sign specifying a home is secured by a company, even if it's not.

Things like motion sensor lights and video doorbell cameras are also good options, but a more affordable option is to form a friendly relationship with neighbors and keep an eye out for one another.

Everything from motion sensor lights, exterior cameras to video doorbells can be a deterrent to criminals.
