"ReStore Reno" awarded $589,000 to 29 additional downtown-area businesses. The first round of grants was awarded last year at $455,000 for 10 businesses.
This initiative is aimed at reinvigorating the downtown area by offering matching grants to property owners and business tenants for façade improvements and interior upgrades.
“Downtown Reno is a great place and has a lot to offer but there’s still a lot of work to be done," said Justin Ryckebosch, Building and Percentage Owner and Contractor. "So, this type of program really is a catalyst and helps restore Reno and fix up these older buildings and make them modernized and beautiful and bringing more fun stuff to do in downtown Reno.”
Between the two rounds of funding, nearly $1,050,000 has been invested into the downtown area, and the total economic improvement value is $5.7 million.
“There was so much excitement with the first round of funding that I can’t wait to see the new plans and business concepts that will be rewarded in the second round,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “'ReStore Reno' is all about making the Biggest Little City even better.”
Ryckebosch mentioned, “I’m appreciative to the Mayor, the City and the whole team for doing this grant program.”
As a part of the initiative, The City is matching eligible costs up to $50,000 for exterior façade improvement projects and up to $50,000 for interior tenant improvement projects. Some applicants can be reimbursed up to $100,000 if they combine façade and tenant improvements.
Ryckebosch also said, “Construction is very expensive right now. We’re contractors and developers so we’re on that side and we see it all the time, so any little bit helps and with these large amounts of money it helps out.”
Awardees will have 90 days to submit building permit applications and an additional 180 days to complete the work upon approval.
