Two years ago, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority announced the multi-billion dollar "More RNO" renovation plan.

Now, we are starting to see some of those plans come to life.

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport held its ribbon cutting on their brand-new ticketing hall.

"Really for the region, it's just more elbow room, and an expanded and modernized first and last impression for the visitors here," said Daren Griffin, President and CEO of the RTAA.

The new ticketing hall gives passengers a lot more breathing room.

The hall expanded by 10,000 square feet, bringing the total room 30,000 square feet.

Along with more space it also brings more advanced travel technology, kiosks and bathrooms.

Griffen says it's rare for a project to be both on time and on budget, but this hall accomplished that.

People will start to get the full experience early next week.

"The traffic lane here along the building will open up at 2 a.m. Monday morning," Griffen said. "So, a classic Monday morning start, and we will get it all flowing and then we'll begin work on the other side of traffic lanes and we will close those off."

With new improvements coming to the airport facility, this could be a domino effect for more airlines to come.

"That allows us to be attractive to airlines looking for airports to start new routes," Griffen said. "We never know what's going to happen out there. We're always trying to get more, but if you don't have the facilities then you're not really competing. So, we are now able to compete with anybody."

For the ticketing hall, there's a 450-foot art piece hanging over the counter and the artist wanted the piece to represent all four seasons, and to touch on many different areas in the region.

Such as Tahoe, Truckee, and Pyramid Lake.

While millions come through the airport per year, that's not what's important to this artist.

"I guess the number of people doesn't matter to me as much as the people who connect and have an experience that's positive," said Dixie Friend Gay, Artist. "That's my goal. It's not about the numbers it's about the quality."

The ticketing hall isn't where this expansion project stops.

Coming up next will be the new ground transportation facility, which is expected to break ground this year.

Also, along with two new and bigger concourses, which they hope to start on next year.
