Dali, the cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, is set to be refloated Monday.
This comes after nine weeks of salvage efforts using cranes and explosives.
The refloat and transit operation is expected to take place Monday morning around 5:24 a.m. when the tide is high. The entire operation may take 21 hours or more, according to Unified Command.
Preparations began on Saturday. Crews released anchors, de-ballasted the ship and conducted inspection for obstructions.
After the ship is refloated, five tugboats will escort the Dali to a local terminal 2.5 miles away.
After the Dali moves, a 50-foot-deep channel is expected to open so that more ships will be able to access the Port of Baltimore. The deeper channel will open around the end of May. So far, four temporary channels have opened to allow some ships to enter the port.
