A 17-year-old boy faces a first-degree murder charge after deputies say he allegedly shot and killed his father earlier this week near Battle Mountain.

Humboldt County deputies say the teen killed his father, 64-year-old William Berch with a rifle on Tuesday.

Berch died on scene, at 25 Ranch.

Deputies say Berch was unarmed at the time he was killed and there was no evidence of a physical fight prior to the shooting.

Berch's body was transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and forensic testing.

The teen was booked into the Humboldt County Detention Center on charges of Murder, First Degree and Domestic Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon and is currently being held without bail.
