In an online post, residents are being warned of toxic algal blooms that have been reported at multiple reservoirs and a lake across Nevada.

The Nevada Division of Conservation and Natural Resources along with other government agencies says the toxic algae can cause serious health issues for both people and animals.

Pets should be kept away from all bodies of water where toxic algae are suspected.

Officials say that hazardous conditions are possible or present and a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) alert has been issued for the following reservoirs and one lake across Nevada:

  • Lahontan State Recreation Area
  • South Fork Recreation Area
  • Spring Valley State Park
  • Washoe Lake State Park
  • Wild Horse State Recreation Area

People and their pets should use caution when in or around the water.

Officials warn the community to avoid any areas where algae has accumulated.

If you see water that looks discolored or smells bad, use caution and stay away.
