The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees has voted unanimously for the rezoning of multiple South Reno elementary schools.

With a recommendation and presentation from the Zoning Advisory Committee, Corbett, Smithridge, and Donner Springs elementary schools will be rezoned to the new Pine campus being built.

"We've talked about this for approximately a year. We did some middle school zoning last spring, and now we're doing the elementary school zoning for that new elementary school on that pine campus," says Tami Zimmerman, WCSD Chief Facilities Management Officer.

Dodson Elementary students will be split into north and south groupings, with north students zoned to Hidden Valley and south students to Donner Springs.

"There are lots of chess pieces and trying to work with the community and engage them in this process to zone their students and their families to a school that they feel like they see themselves in and can attend and be happy there."

The rezoning focuses on schools with underutilized space. Additionally, the zoning will also affect middle and high school paths for students effected.

Corbett and south Dodson students will change from Wooster to Damonte Ranch High school. Donner Springs will maintain their Damonte Ranch path.

The zoning changes will not take place until the 2028-2029 school year.Â
