Long-time Reno businessman and pivotal member of the community, Luther Mack Jr. was remembered by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office on Monday as a hard-working man who took great pride in his community.Â
The Sheriff's Office expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Luther Mack.
“He was not only a friend and a mentor, he was also endlessly supportive of the men and women of the Sheriff's Office,” they said in a thread on their X page.Â
 Luther Mack Jr. served as one of the first black police officers in northern Nevada.Â
He was also a member of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association for more than 20 years.
