The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) says on Wednesday June 10, at 8:55 p.m. troopers from NHP responded to a serious injury crash on US-93 near mile marker 140 in Elko County, within the town of Jackpot.
They say the crash reportedly involved a pedestrian and a commercial tractor/trailer.
NHP says preliminary investigation determined that a red 2019 Freightliner tractor towing an enclosed semi-trailer was traveling southbound on US-93 through Jackpot, approaching the intersection with Ace Drive.
They say an adult male pedestrian was walking across US-93 from east to west at the intersection with Ace Drive.
NHP says the driver of the Freightliner did not observe the pedestrian crossing the highway until the driver was a short distance from the intersection.
They say the driver steered to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision with the pedestrian.
They say the left front of the Freightliner struck the pedestrian on the north side of the intersection.
NHP says the driver then brought the vehicle to a controlled stop in the rightmost southbound travel of US-93.
They say the pedestrian, 78-year-old Stefan Molnar of Jackpot, Nevada sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was flown to an area hospital.
NHP says he remains in critical condition at this time.
They say the driver of the Freightliner, a 27-year-old Redlands, California resident, is cooperating with the investigation.
NHP says the investigation is being handled by the Nevada Highway Patrol, Wells District.
