The Northern Nevada Pride event is a celebration of the LGBT community in our area. Saturday’s festival featured a parade and live entertainment. Reno mayor Hillary Schieve, also made the announcement that July 25th will be known as Pride Day in Reno.
“It’s really great to come out and show your support and the Supreme Court ruling whether you like it or not is something to embrace and so we're very proud at the city of Reno to do that,” says Schieve.
Meredith Tanzer, a Pride organizer, is partnered with Build Our Center. Build Our Center is a LGBT group hoping to build a facility with the help of Saturday’s proceeds.
“Last year we had 2,000 people, it was insane, we made $10,000 for Build Our Center after expenses which is incredible,” says Tanzer.
Organizers say Pride is a place where the community can express themselves anyway they'd like. John Lysight attended today’s event and he says the word pride is very special to him.
“To me it's the unity of friendship and the willingness of community and everybody to come together, good bad or indifferent. We are who we are and we're human,” says Lysight.
