UPDATE: Maryland firefighter dies after being shot during welfare check at suburban home; second firefighter in critical condition.Â
(AP) - Officials say at least two firefighters are in critical condition after being shot in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C.
Prince George's County Fire/EMS spokesman Mark Brady says firefighters were responding to a welfare call at a single-family home in Temple Hills when they were shot Friday night. He says details of the shooting are unclear and one other person, thought to be a civilian, was shot in the shoulder.
He says both firefighters were in critical condition, and one was flown to a shock trauma center.
Brady says a police investigation is underway and his understanding was that a suspect was in custody.
