Only on 2: Machine Gun Manufacturing in Storey County is Right On Target

You may not realize it but a lot of the machine guns being used around the world right now...were manufactured in Storey County. But the rest of the world is well aware of it. Just ask founder and CEO of U.S. Ordnance, Curtis Debord.

"We send guns to Thailand, Indonesia, Denmark, Colombia, Saudi Arabia. We have guns all over the world!"

In fact, U.S. Ordnance is the sole source for M-60's and they are a very popular weapon for militia. They produce about 3,000 guns a year. And because they are a relatively small company, they can deliver orders about the same time the government approves them, which is about six months. They employ about 90 employees and they work with high-tech specialized machinery. And they are a part of a manufacturing boon in Storey County. U.S. Ordnance located in Storey County because it felt it was business-friendly.

"Nevada is way more business-friendly than other states, and Storey County is the most business-friendly county of all," Debord says. "Dean Haymore, (in charge of planning and permits in Storey County) is the most helpful civil servant ever. If you need a permit and he's going on vacation tomorrow, he'll stay up all night so he doesn't waste your time. And in business, time is money. And we all appreciate how he helps instead of causing even more hurdles. He's great!"

And U.S. Ordnance is just one of a growing number of manufacturers in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center helping boost revenues for the state.
