Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District says all outdoor recreational and cooking fires are now banned until further notice. This includes charcoal briquettes and campfires.
Residents are still able to use propane, electric and pellet fueled barbecues.
"This is a necessary step due to the unseasonable heat and dryness of the wildland fuels in our region," TMFPD wrote.
Officials in the district have the authority to extinguish the aforementioned fires on any property within the fire district.
“We aren’t even halfway through fire season, and we’ve already seen several devastating wildfires in the region and neighboring states of California and Oregon and we must take immediate action to decrease the possibility of wildfires in unincorporated Washoe County,” said Deputy Fire Chief Dale Way.
