Portion of Victorian Avenue Closes for New Concrete, Water Main Replacement

A portion of Victorian Avenue in Sparks is currently closed off for a project involving new concrete and a water main replacement.

The closure started on Monday between Rock Boulevard and 16th Street.

RTC says the asphalt at that location has failed, and they'll replace part of it with a concrete surface.

Crews are also replacing a water main line along with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the City of Sparks.

Crews working on this project are on a tight timetable. They started right after Hot August Nights, and will try to get everything done by the rib cookoff early next month.

"We do want to assure people that when the rib festival gets here and you want to come down to Victorian Square, no worries, this road should be fully open at that time,” says Joe Harrington, Regional Transportation Commission.

If everything goes to plan, the road should reopen August 31.

Harrington says the intersection of Rock and Victorian will also close for a very short time too, but that closure should take place when it doesn't impact as many people.
