Portions of SouthEast Connector Speed Limit Raised to 55 mph

The City of Reno says starting Thursday, May 14th, the speed limit on the SouthEast Connector will increase to 55 mph.

Public Works crews will be installing the new speed limit signs on sections of the 5.5-mile stretch of road that opened to the public in July 2018.

An original speed limit of 45 mph was established for the new segment of Veterans Parkway, known as the SouthEast Connector (SEC), but many commuters who use the stretch of road requested a speed limit increase.

In response, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County conducted a speed study on three cross sections of the SEC.

The SEC is a regional road passing through a portion of all three jurisdictions: Washoe County, City of Reno and City of Sparks. However, a majority of the SEC is within City of Reno limits, and all accesses south of Greg Street are under City of Reno jurisdiction. This includes the signalized intersections at Pembroke, Mira Loma and South Meadows Parkway.

*Note: The bridge on the north end of the SEC will increase from 40 mph to 45 mph. The section of Veterans Parkway that runs south of the South Meadows Parkway intersection will remain at 45 mph.
