You can see some professional watercross riders compete at the Sparks Marina this weekend – for free.
The U.S. Open of Watercross will kick into high gear Saturday and Sunday. The event is similar to motorcross on the water and riders reach speeds up to 90 miles an hour with more than a dozen riders jockeying for position.
"You can definitely expect some close competition especially being that we are up in altitude it kind of equalizes the boats out a little more, but there's a lot of great riders here and you should see some good head to head competition,” says watercross racer Chris MacClugage.
The U.S. Open of Watercross is the third stop on a national watercross tour that involves the top competitors from around the country and internationally.
Also, because of the event the dog park at south end of the Sparks Marina will be closed tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
