Qatar Seeks to Mediate Amid Tensions After U.S. Strike in Iraq

Qatar's foreign minister says his Gulf nation wants to play a mediating role amid regional tensions following a U.S. drone strike that killed a top Iranian general and a senior Iraqi official earlier this month.

The attack escalated into a major crisis between Washington and Tehran, with Baghdad caught in the middle.

Qatar's foreign minister said during an official visit to Baghdad that his country was making contacts to de-escalate tensions.

His Iraqi counterpart said their talks on Wednesday focused on decreasing tensions and stressed that Iraq and Qatar share common friends in both Iran and America.
