Reconstruction work on the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris is set to resume next week.

Work at the site was suspended on March 16, when France introduced widespread measures to help combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

French President Emmanuel Macron's special representative for the reconstruction project, Army General Louis Georgelin, announced his decision that a gradual resumption of the conservation efforts will take place on Monday, April 27th.

The April 15, 2019, blaze gutted its interior, toppled its famous spire and horrified the world.

The medieval landmark remains locked in a web of twisted metal scaffolding, erected for an earlier renovation.

President Macron has said he wants it rebuilt by 2024, when Paris hosts the Olympics, but experts have questioned whether that time frame is realistic.
