UPDATE: The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) says around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 58-year-old Will Kernan was in the Judicial District Court being sentenced when he bolted from the court room.
WCSO says deputies chased him outside the building where they were able to get him into custody.
WCSO says when the suspect ran from the court room, he went toward the bridge on Sierra Street to the backside of the courthouse.
Deputies say he went for a planter that had a zip lock back in it.
Inside the bag was a loaded firearm, WCSO said.
Deputies were able to obtain the bag before the suspect got to the gun.
He was sentenced to 18-120 months in prison for his burglary charges.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office reports a Reno man was convicted for burglary on Thursday.
They said 58-year-old Will Kernan faces up to ten years in prison.
The Reno Police Department responded to a call of a burglary at a residence, alerted by a home security system that was programmed to detect motion and send the footage to the homeowner.
The homeowner received the alert and contacted the police and they quickly located Kernan.
Kernan's clothing and physical appearance matched that of the suspect seen inside the home.
