The Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority is the region's top tourism agency, but it hasn't had a permanent president for one year now. It's been a lengthy process to replace the former CEO, Chris Baum, who was let go last October, "without cause".Â
The board has been trying to narrow down several candidates for a while now. The two finalists going for the RSCVA position are Richard Peterson and Philip DeLone. On Thursday, we learned more about them in a public meeting.Â
Richard Peterson is from Northern California and has been running S&P Consulting in San Francisco for several months now, where he provides marketing services. He also has an extensive background in travel and tourism. Peterson has worked for the California Academy of Sciences and the Convention and Visitors Bureau in Los Angeles.Â
When asked how he would improve the region, Peterson said, "To ensure that Reno and it's region are well represented to bring the right business to our community, which benefits everybody."
Philip DeLone has a past experience in the Biggest Little City. He worked at the Silver Legacy and the former Bally's Casino back in the 80's and 90's. His last several years have been with the Safari Club International in Tuscon, Arizona. As a chief executive officer, he runs the global hunting and safari tourism company.Â
DeLone said he has a vision for Northern Nevada, "One of my personal goals and objectives is to reinvigorate the occupancy and get some conventions going."
The board is expected to make a vote on a new president in the coming weeks.Â
