The billboard is located facing I-580, near Mt. Rose Highway, and some people say it shouldn’t be there at all. According to Scenic Nevada, even though this billboard has a permit, it goes against city codes.

Candidates are gearing up for the road to the primary election, buying advertising in a variety of ways. Some campaign ads started airing on TV as early as November. Darin Balaam and Sherman Boxx are both running for Sheriff of Washoe County.

Scenic Nevada has filed a lawsuit against the City of Reno in an attempt to limit the number of billboards within city limits. 

In 1999, Scenic Nevada gained enough petition signatures to prohibit the construction of new billboards in the City of Reno. That ballot initiative passed with more than half of the vote.  However, advocates say the former city council members later amended the initiative, creating what they call 'loopholes.'

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has paid to have billboards put up in Carson City and Dayton that warn against the risks of cancer causing foods in schools.
