Procter & Gamble is recalling more than 8 million bags of Tide, Gain, Ace and Ariel laundry detergent packets sold in the U.S. and Canada due to a defect in the products' child-resistant packaging.

The Fed is expected to raise interest rates another three-quarters of a percentage point at its upcoming meeting in November.

Applications for jobless aid for the week ending June 25 ticked down to 231,000, a decline of 2,000 from the previous week. 

Shares in Asia and Europe also made gains and oil prices also rose.

Three weeks ago the government reported that U.S. employers added 390,000 jobs in May, extending a streak of solid hiring. 

Last month, the government reported America’s employers added 428,000 jobs in April, leaving the unemployment rate at 3.6%.

The S&P 500 rose 1.9%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2% and the Nasdaq rose 1.6%.

Applications for unemployment benefits rose by 21,000 to 218,000 for the week ending May 14. 

Big Tech has been leading the market lower all month as traders shun the high-flying sector.

U.S. employers added 678,000 jobs in February.
