Much of Truckee Meadows saw snow fall, and it even stuck to the ground for a little while Saturday morning.
Luckily the weather cleared up with plenty of time to spare before the annual Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade down Victorian Avenue.
A couple people who live nearby had doubts about the parade when they saw the weather this morning.
"It was snowing and looked like it was going to be canceled on a count of snow," Sparks resident Catherine Parks says. "But I'm glad it wasn't."
"It was really bad earlier I totally thought they weren't going to do it," Sparks resident Sabrina Geller says. "I'm really glad it cleared up, though. Now it's nice and little bit warmer."
Some groups walk, others make floats, and some show off fancy vehicles. The lineup includes groups like school marching bands, local businesses, and non-profits. While almost every group had an interesting aspect to their float or performance, there are always personal favorites.
"I think all the little kids dancing and the bands and stuff that's my favorite part," Geller says. "To see all the kids just doing something they get to do and they're doing it with the community, can't go wrong with that."
"Sparks Police Department," Parks says. "They're always there for our community."
Many families come out to see all the sights and sounds of the parade, but other come to support loved ones, like Vince Malone.
"I came out to support the Northern Nevada Cart Club, my son's on the float." Malone says, "I grew up racing in Carson City Nevada at the Silver State Race Track and I've been in about three or four parades with myself and my crew. And this is my son's first parade that he's going to be in so this is a pretty big deal for our family because he's a third generation driver. He's stoked to be in his first parade."
While new traditions are made, others just keep on rolling.
"I'll probably be here every year."
