UPDATE, March 2020: The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a Sparks man will spend at least 20 years in prison after he was sentenced in a 2017 murder case.

The DA's Office says 29-year-old Richard Silva was found guilty of first murder degree with a deadly weapon last Friday by a jury inside Washoe County District Court.

Authorities say Silva shot 26-year-old Luz Graciela Linarez-Castillo while she was inside a car that then crashed into an apartment building near Parkview Street and Mazzone Avenue in Reno on November 2, 2017. Police say Silva shot her because of a family dispute.

The DA's Office says Silva, who was the victim's brother-in-law, recruited his nephew, 20-year-old Yiovannie Guzman to kill Linarez-Castillo.

Prosecutors say she had three young children and was 6-8 weeks pregnant at the time of her killing.

The DA's Office says detectives were able to link both men to the crime through eyewitness descriptions, video surveillance and DNA collected at the scene.

Prosecutors say despite the weapon never being located, they were able to determine that Guzman drove Silva to the scene.

Silva is scheduled to be sentenced on a separate deadly weapon enhancement charge on May 6, 2020. He faces an additional penalty of 20 years in prison on that charge.

Meanwhile, Guzman pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of battery with a deadly weapon. He faces up to 20 years in prison when he's scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, 2020.
