The Reno Aces played their first game of a six-game stretch at home against the Round Rock Express on Tuesday afternoon.

The game started at 12:05 p.m.

Northern Nevada is under an excessive heat warning through Saturday morning.

During the game, the athletic trainers kept a close eye on players.

"We monitor their heart rate and their respiration when they start to feel a little bit unwell," said Paul Porter, Head Athletic Trainer for the Reno Aces. "And then also the temperature and color of their skin, like if they start to get really pale that's when we get concerned and really encourage them on hydrating and cooling off using those ice towels."

Porter says that players not sweating is also a cause for concern. This is because the body does not have enough water in its system to cool itself down.

Throughout the game, players are encouraged to sit in the shade when they can and use the ice water to dunk their face or wrap towels around their necks.

Porter says it's the hydration before the game that is crucial for athletic performance.

For recovery after the game, players will use a lot of ice and sit in ice baths.

Hydration is still extremely stressed after the last pitch is thrown.

"So, for every one pound of weight they lose we encourage them to drink 16 ounces of water," Porter said. "So, kind of weigh yourself before and after to make sure you're amply hydrating yourself between games."

Some fans who also decided to brave the heat, came prepared.

"First I wet this down, and I've got this they gave me a couple years ago and I wet that down," said Suzanne Metz-Apau, as she grabbed her shirt and a towel to show what she puts in water. "I sit in the shade at the top and stay out of the sun."

"Staying hydrated, sitting in the shade a little bit," said Greg Silvestro,  "Walking around and not eating too much."

"I brought a ton of water with me," said Carrie Chamberlain. "I have this ice water here, I have a hat to wear, and then in my back pack I have four frozen waters."

The Aces have five more home games during this heat wave, so, if you plan on going, make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
