ORIGINAL STORY:

The Washoe County coroner has identified the woman found dead inside her Reno home on August 12th. A homicide suspect arrested in Lassen County is awaiting extradition to Reno.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office says 24-year-old Elizabeth Gurrola was killed by blunt trauma to her head and neck.

The Reno Police Department says on the same day Gurrola was found dead, a California Highway Patrol car in Susanville stopped a car for traffic violations in the area of US-395 southbound and Hall Road.

Officials said Highway Patrol officers recognized the driver as Jesus Padilla and he was acting suspiciously. They said officers became concerned Padilla may have been involved in a violent crime in the Reno area.

The California Highway Patrol asked for help from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and the Reno Police Department.

Officials said Reno Police found a crime scene in the 3600 block of Grant Drive in Reno, where they found Gurrola dead.

They believe Gurrola was an associate of Padilla.

They said it is believed that Padilla killed Gurrola a few hours prior to the traffic stop. Officials said they don't believe anyone else is involved in the crime.

Padilla was booked at the Lassen County Sheriff's Department for homicide and a DUI. He is pending extradition to Reno.
