After a week of some of the most delicious food in the country, the tents on Victorian Square were torn down Monday after hundreds of thousands of people attended the 30th annual Best in the West Rib Cook-off.
Thanks to a week long festival with lots of food and drinks, the clean up on Victorian Square will take quite some time.
"You can imagine the mess that 250 thousand pounds of ribs and all of these people and all the foods [create]." Director of Marketing and Communications for The Nugget Casino says. "It's a massive clean up effort. It will literally take all through next week to get everything [done]. We'll open the streets as soon as we can. It's usually a day or two there, but it takes about a week to really get the sidewalks washed down everything picked up and back in shape."
Matthew Myer is the owner of Butch's Smack Your Lips BBQ and explained the long process of getting everything packed up.
"Well the first thing is you have to clean your equipment," Myer says. "And that is a feat of its own because you have a ton of equipment and everything has to be spit, shined and polished, because it's got a long drive back to New Jersey."
After everything's clean, Myer says they start breaking everything down and packing it up. Taking it down doesn't take as long as setting up, but that's mainly because there's less urgency.
"It can turn into a three hour tear down," Myer says. "To put it up it'll take all day long but it's a nice easy pace. It's just simple."
Even during the tear down of this year's tent, Myer is thinking about next year.
"Oh, absolutely," Myer says. "We're ready for it."
