Many readers and music enthusiasts will be disappointed to hear that Sundance Books and Music will close their doors for good after May 31st.Â
The owner told us after 39 years of business, she has other things she wants to pursue.
She also said that it definitely wasn't a quick decision.
"Well we've been doing this for 39 years and it's just the right time," said owner Christine Kelly.
Sundance opened its doors in December of 1985 at the Keystone shopping center where they operated for their first 25 years.
After that, the Nevada Museum of Art invited the store to move into Levy Mansion where they have been located for the last 13 years.
Many customers had memories to share and were upset to hear that it is closing its doors for good.
"You know books, literacy is, you know, paramount to everything we do I think and to have support of that in the community, that really knows the community, is a part of the community," said longtime customer Chris Case. "I think is super important, but it's been a fantastic 39 years that's for sure."
"Missy would call us when new Jack Johnson records came in so that was amazing,"Â Case added. "Not prompted at all, would just grab the phone and would call us. And yeah, that kind of customer service and that kind of support for local businesses is important."
Kelly hopes people will come in and sign their guest book and write down anything from their favorite books to good memories they have of Sundance.
The last day Sundance will be open is May 31st.
