Halloween and Nevada Day event 2024

If you are looking for a place to take the kids to celebrate Halloween or Nevada Day this year, here are some events happening in and around our area. Check back often we will keep the list updated as we learn about new events in the area.

HALLOWEEN EVENTS: 

Reno

Reno has several events throughout the rest of the month at various locations throughout the City. 

Saturday, October 26:

The Discovery Museum will be hosting its 13th Annual Trick-or-Treat where trick-or-treaters can go from gallery to gallery collecting treats. For more information on the hours and prices for members/non-members click here.

The National Automobile Museum will be hosting its "Spooktacular Carnival" in the haunted halls of the museum, morning activities are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the main event starting at 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The carnival will have trick-or-treating, ghoulish games, and what coordinators say is spine-chilling entertainment that will send shivers down your spine!

They say activities can be found for all ages, costumes are encouraged. For more information and to see entry prices for members/non-members click here.  

The Nevada State Police along with several other Nevada agencies will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat Nevada 2024 event at the Nevada DMV South Reno Office from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Northern Nevada Classics will be hosting a free and open to the public Trunk-or-Treat at the Reno Town Mall in the parking lot from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

The Potter's House is hosting a Trunk or Treat from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

The event is free and open to the public but a reservation is highly encouraged although not required. To reserve your spot click here.

There will be free candy, face-painting, a cake walk, games, a bounce house,. 

Sunday, October 27: 

Reno Ice is hosting a free and open to the public "Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Reno Christian Fellowship will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

First Congregation Church of Reno will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat in their back parking lot from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., they say all big and little ghouls are welcome. 

The Reno Elks Lodge will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat in their parking lot from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

The Reno Public Market will be hosting a free Trick-or-Treating event inside its food court area from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

They do have the following costume restrictions, costumes not allowed on their property include; costumes that depict gangs and horror characters or are overly scary; costumes that include weapons of any kind; costumes that demean race, religion, nationality, handicapped condition, or gender; costumes with obstructive masks; costumed depicting nudity. 

The Cyan City Park will be hosting its annual Trunk-or-Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, October 30: 

Nevada Humane Society’s Tricks & Treats event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be Trick-or-Treating throughout the center, while guests can visit with all the animals and vote on the best decorated space. 

Ticor Title Company will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat in their parking lot from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sparks

Sparks also has several events throughout the rest of the month at various locations throughout the City. 

Saturday, October 26:

The Rock Church will be hosting its annual Trunk-or-Treat event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, October 27:

Final Draught will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat in their parking lot from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Carson City

Friday, October 25: 

The Sierra Academy of Style is hosting a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., entry into the event is a donation of a non-perishable food item. The event will have candy being passed out, a haunted-house, and more. 

Saturday, October 26:

The Hilltop Community Church will hold its annual family-friendly Fall Festival from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

The festival is free and open to the public and will have Trunk-or-Treat, a chili cook-off, and a kids carnival.  

Thursday, October 31:

This will be the official night for Trick-or-Treating in Carson City.

The Governor and the first lady will be handing out candy and available for phots at The Governor's Mansion from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be entertainment for all ages 

Fernley

Thursday, October 31st:

City of Fernley will be hosting "Spooktacular" at City Hall from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

This year's event includes, a new cemetery, a new skeleton dancer, a spooky hallway, Trick-or-Treating, a bounce house, photo booth, Trunk-or-Treating, and live music from Biggest Little Radio. 

Fallon

Sunday, October 27:

Harvest Festival is back at 1520 S. Maine Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The festival is free and open to the public, it will have activities like a Trunk-or-Treat, Scavenger Hunt, Bounce Houses, a Maze Room, and much more!

VIRGINIA CITY

Sunday, October 31: 

Virginia City will be hosting the Hauntober Parade and Safe Trick-or-Treating along its many streets. 

The parade begins at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., everyone is encouraged to join in. 

After the parade, the many shops along the boardwalk will offer candy from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

NEVADA DAY EVENTS: 

Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26:

The Nevada State Museum, will be offering free admission on Nevada Day, October 25 and the following day, October 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

They will also have Coin Press No. 1 minting demonstrations and interpretive talks in the historic Mint from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Nevada State Railroad will be offering free admission on Nevada Day, October 25 and the following day, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  

The Nevada Day Powwow will run October 26, 27, and 28 with a Friday Grand Entry beginning at 7 p.m., Grand Entry at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday at the MAC Center

A chance for attendees to celebrate Native American culture, arts and crafts, and enjoy Indian tacos. 

The event is free and open to the public. 

Saturday, October 26:

A Nevada Day tradition, the pancake breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion hosted by the Carson City Republican Women’s Club will take place from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The cost for breakfast which includes pancakes, eggs, ham, orange juice and coffee is $7 for adults and $3 for kids 10 and younger.

The Carson Mall in their south parking lot will kick off the day with the REMAX/Nevada Day Balloon Launch that begins at 6 a.m to 8 a.m., followed by a Craft Show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Other activities at the mall include the annual Cornhole Tournament, live music by Stones Throw from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and chances for the kids to get a sneak peek of Santa’s Christmas Elevator, where kids can write letters to Santa and make appointments all day! 

The Renew Skincare & Wellness Studios, located next to Plato’s Closet, will host its first “Haunted Spa” for kids from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the will have free goodies and prizes for kids up to 12 years of age.

The World Championship Single Jack Rock Drilling Contest begins around 11:00 a.m. 

The competition consists of men and women contestants using 4 1/2 pound hammers and a 3/4” bit of steel to drill as deep and as fast as they can in a 4,320 pound piece of Sierra White Granite from the Yosemite area (the hardest known granite in the region).

Contestants have 10 minutes to pound the drills into the solid stone, their only help is from an assistant who runs water into the hole so the loose stone chips are splashed out with every stroke of the hammer. The deepest hole wins.

The contest goes back to the Comstock mining skills of earlier times, when blast holes for dynamite were punched into ore bodies by hand. Contestants vie for a chance at a World Champion title.

THE NEVADA DAY PARADE will kick-off at 10 a.m. with a military fly-over to signal the start of the parade, which begins at William Street and N. Carson Street, and ends 4 hours later at the intersection of Stewart Street and S. Carson Street.

The parade features marching bands, floats, equestrian groups, historical displays, Burning Man art cars, and much more. 

Nevada Day Beard Contest at Cipriani’s Downtown Barber Shop and Paradise Salon Spa and Wellness begins at 2 p.m. on the main stage at McFadden Plaza (3rd St.)

The contest is open to anyone with a beard. Award categories include: best overall winner, longest, fullest, reddest, whitest, blackest, best salt and pepper, best groomed, scruffiest, and most bearded community.

The Capital City Community Band opens its 46th concert season with a free concert of patriotic and Halloween favorites at 2 p.m. at the Amphitheater in the Legislative Mall (weather permitting.) 

The concert is free and open to the public, parents are encouraged to bring their children. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
