The Washoe County Reno Senior Center will be closed from January 8, 2025, to March 31, 2025, for a major, much-needed remodel.

According to Washoe County, the nearly 2.8 million dollar remodel will better serve Washoe County's seniors.

They say the Senior Center has operated since 1978 and continues to provide a wide range of daily services to more than 85,000 seniors, including meals and multiple assistance programs.  As Washoe County’s senior population experiences significant growth, several areas at the center have deteriorated, are too small, and unsafe, making it more difficult for staff to continue serving seniors safely and efficiently.

The remodel includes the following improvements:

  • New ceiling tiles, lighting, and HVAC in the dining room.
  • A new stage in the dining room, with other minor modifications to the space.
  • New flooring in the dining room.
  • New flooring in kitchen.
  • Remodeled library, with new flooring, and other various upgrades.
  • Remodeled Billiard Room, including new billiard tables, lighting, flooring, carpet, tables, and chairs.
  • Remodeled men’s and women’s restrooms.
  • Remodeled Conference Room, Meeting/Bingo Room & Poker, Game Room, including new furniture.

Washoe County says that during the remodel, Washoe County Senior Services will continue serving meals in a modular dining room that will be located near the Reno Rodeo (see map below) and can accommodate up to 60 people. They will offer specific meal times, assigned to seniors, to allow for three repeated seatings each weekday.

They say the Meals on Wheels program will continue its service without any interruptions, and they will continue to provide regular activities at the Evelyn Mount Center beginning in mid-January.

The County says they want the communities seniors to continue to socialize, have coffee and conversations together, and enjoy the new location which will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Washoe County says that for anyone needing a ride, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) Route 2 will offer a bus stop at the Washoe County Complex to go to and from the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, which is located at 1301 Valley Road, in Reno.
