WRITE A BRIEF (TWO TO THREE SENTENCES) SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENABLE YOU TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE:
My 20 years of experience in law enforcement, firefighting, and military service,
including my deployment to Afghanistan and currently as your Assistant State Fire Marshal, has provided me with a unique understanding of public safety and the needs of our community. These experiences have instilled in me the importance of leadership, service, and decisive action – qualities I will bring to the City Council to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.
WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?
Improving Public Safety
We must improve where and how we are spending money to deliver better services. Regionalization and better coordination can prevent duplication like we are seeing now, and allow us to invest in important equipment like fully working brush fire trucks, which we are currently lacking. Jurisdictional barriers are currently hindering effective emergency response. These barriers lead to unacceptable delays in critical situations, misallocation of vital resources, and a lack of coordination that tragically impacts lives and property. Regionalizing fire departments offers a comprehensive solution by consolidating dispatch centers, sharing essential equipment and personnel, and streamlining operations across boundaries. This not only leads to faster response times and enhanced coordination among first responders but also significant cost savings that can be reinvested into improving public safety.
IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING SPARKS, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?
Public safety is the biggest issue, and Sparks is facing a significant budget shortfall of over $6 million, a direct result of our current city council's mismanagement. This shortfall is impacting essential everything from public safety and road maintenance to parks. As your City Councilman, I will make addressing this deficit while protecting and improving public safety my top priority. I will work tirelessly to find solutions that protect our vital city services while ensuring we spend taxpayer money responsibly.
WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP EASE THE HOUSING CRUNCH IN SPARKS?
I understand the frustration and anxiety caused by the housing crunch in Sparks. As your City Councilman, I'll work tirelessly to increase housing availability and affordability. This means streamlining the development process for new homes, exploring options like increased density and infill development, and supporting initiatives for affordable and workforce housing. I'll also prioritize economic development to ensure good-paying jobs, improved public transportation, and addressing homelessness to alleviate pressure on the housing market. I'm committed to finding solutions that make Sparks a place where everyone can afford to live.
IN ONE SENTENCE: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Public safety is at risk in Sparks, and my professional expertise in law enforcement, firefighting, and public safety is needed to help turn our city around.
