It all started with a round-headed boy named "Good ol' Charlie Brown".
On October 2, 1950, cartoonist Charles M. Schulz introduced a new comic strip featuring an unlikely hero.
That strip was Peanuts, and it went on to become one of the most beloved and influential comic series in history.
Now, 75 years later, fans across the world are celebrating the anniversary of the comic and its cast of unforgettable characters, from philosophical Linus and his outspoken sister Lucy, to loyal Snoopy, who remains the face of the franchise.
According to Peanuts.com, the comic first appeared in just seven U.S. newspapers before growing into a global phenomenon. Today, it’s featured in online syndication and newspapers around the world, and has expanded into books, stage productions, films, mobile apps, and streaming shows.
Snoopy has even gone to space, multiple times, thanks to a partnership with NASA, according to the site. The brand has also inspired everything from public art and theme park attractions to popcorn makers and pajamas.
Throughout 2025, Peanuts Worldwide is planning a year of “Memorable Moments” to mark the milestone, including special events, exhibitions, collaborations, and new content.
The comic has also left a cultural mark with its own vocabulary: phrases like “Good grief!,” “You blockhead!”, "Security Blanket", and “Happiness is…” are now instantly recognizable.
As the franchise looks ahead, the message remains simple. As the site puts it: Happiness is…75 years of Peanuts.
From all of us at 2 News Nevada, Happy 75th to Peanuts!
