Plan to Have Veterans Barracks Supports Inmates' Road to Recovery

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) says it is limiting visits as health officials continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak.

Officials with WCSO said the public is urged to take preventative steps to reduce the impact of the coronavirus on the Washoe County community.

They said while all law enforcement and patrol operations will continue as normal, the public is encouraged to take advantage of online reporting, making crime reports and conducting business over the phone if feasible and to avoid having to come to the Sheriff's Office in person when possible.

Officials said visits to inmates in the detention facility can be conducted remotely using iWebVisit.com, when possible.

They said additional steps include:

  • All ride-alongs with patrol deputies and Sheriff’s Office tours have been suspended until further notice.
Participation by Sheriff’s Office personnel in non-essential community events has been suspended through April 2020.
The 2020 Regional Citizens’ Police Academy scheduled to start on March 17 has been postponed until further notice.
“Coffee with a Cop,” scheduled for March 25 has also been cancelled.
