Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei (R - Nevada) was one of four Republicans to vote against a $9.4 billion rescissions request sent to Congress by the Trump Administration.
The measure passed in the House by a narrow margin, 214 to 212.
It would make cuts to foreign aid programs and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides money for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, as well as thousands of public radio and television stations around the country.
Amodei released a statement on Thursday explaining the reason for his vote.
“I agree we must make meaningful cuts to shrink our federal deficit; however, I would be doing a disservice to the thousands of rural constituents in my district if I did not fight to keep their access to the rest of the world and news on the air," the congressman said in part, concluding his statement by saying "I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve and protect this infrastructure our rural communities rely on.”
