U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV2) has announced that he's retiring from Congress.

He released this statement:

"Serving the people of Nevada has been the honor of my lifetime. Nobody is prouder of our Nevada Congressional District than me. Thank you for the honor. Every achievement worth doing began with listening to Nevadans and fighting for our values.

"I came to Congress to solve problems and to make sure our State and Nation have strong voice in the federal policy and oversight processes. I look forward to finishing my term. After 15 years of service, I believe it is the right time for Nevada and myself to pass the torch."

The Nevada born Amodei has served as the U.S. Representative for Nevada’s Second Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, where he serves on the Federal Lands and Oversight and Investigations subcommittees. Additionally, he sits on the House Appropriations Committee, and serves on the Financial Services and Interior subcommittees. Since 2024, he has served as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee.

He previously also served in the Nevada State Senate and Assembly, and was also Chairman of the Nevada Republican Party until May 2011. Before that, he was President of the Nevada Mining Association.

Nevada's Second Congressional District includes the majority of Lyon County, Carson City, and all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine counties.

Governor Joe Lombardo issued the following statement on the retirement of Congressman Mark Amodei:

“Congressman Mark Amodei has been an unwavering advocate for northern Nevada and a dedicated public servant. Throughout his tenure in the Nevada State Legislature and Washington, he worked tirelessly to represent Nevadans’ interests and advocate for our state. I want to thank Congressman Amodei for his years of service to Nevada and for his faithful partnership with my office. On behalf of all Nevadans, I wish him and his family the very best in his well-earned retirement.”
