More than one-third of all Washoe County registered voters have cast their ballots already. That totals more than 100,000 ballots.
Some of those were first-time voters.
“I enjoyed the process of voting. It was really easy. I enjoyed it; it was like five minutes at most to do,” said Dylan Gary.
Gary is a first-time voter. He cast his vote today at the Washoe County Complex, side by side with 33 other Sierra Nevada Job Corps participants. The group went to the complex together this morning with a few program instructors.
“They've definitely enjoyed it. And we've had a little prep beforehand to kind of prepare them for the candidates and all of that,” said Sheila Hernandez, Deputy Center Director. “Then today they got to come and show their vote.”
Job Corps provides free training for a number of fields, helping to set folks between 16 and 24 years old up for their ideal career path. Their votes count towards Washoe County's early voting totals.
As of Wednesday afternoon, that total was more than 38,000.
On top of that, more than 65,000 mail ballots have been accepted by the Washoe County Registrar of Voters’ office. That means more than 100,000 of Washoe County's 300,000 registered voters have voted already.
“We're currently sitting at around 30% turnout at the Registrar's Office. We always want to see a 100% turnout, right? That's what we try and prepare for. That's why we want our community to participate in this process,” said George Guthrie, the Public Information Officer for the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office.
Voters may participate in early voting until vote centers close at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30th.
Any mail ballots are eligible to be accepted as long as they are postmarked by Election Day.
Vote centers open on Election Day, November 3rd, at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., but anyone already in line at closing time can still vote. Then all votes will be counted, and results will be released.
