Mt. Rose Opens for the Season

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe opened for the season on Friday.  There's been some before season opportunities for pass holders this season, but now the resort is open to everyone seven days a week.

"We're super excited," said Siani Nau, Community Relations Manager for Mt. Rose.  "It's gorgeous weather - it's always nice when it's sunny out and we've been able to make snow the last couple of days, which was been amazing."

The resort spent more than $2 million in the off season, a lot of that going towards the snow-making system.  The surface lift and Wizard beginner lift are now open - good news for those who just couldn't wait to hit the slopes.

"I couldn't help myself, it was like a magnet," said Reno skier Roger Codon.  "It was beautiful, fantastic -  it's not the top yet but you get your fix in and you're good to go.  I like the people here, the snow, a lot of locals come here and a lot of tourists; it's very hospitable and friendly."

A lot of locals took advantage of the day until closing chair.

"It's the closest mountain, we live 15 minutes away," said Felix Pena, a Texas native who now teaches snowboarding.

The resort is also looking forward to a busy Thanksgiving weekend.

"We do get a lot of calls," Nau said.  "They've already booked their trips and they can't wait to get on the hill."

And a  lot of the skiers and riders here for opening day say this is just the first of many they'll spend here.

"You'll see me every day," Pena said.

"We had a great time, we all we got good runs in and I'm just happy to be back out on the snow," said snowboarder Terran Compton.

"This mountain is great, I'm living here," said snowboarder Dalton Gamma.
