You may start to hear about a new football team that's in town.

The Reno Pop Warner Challenger League had its first game Sunday at Bishop Manogue High School.

The Challenger League is a flag football program for athletes between the ages of 6 and 18.

This team allows athletes who have special needs to get on the field and play the game they love.

Lorraine Howard an Adapted Physical Education Specialist with Washoe County School District says, "Every kid deserves the right to be on the field and not on the sideline."

Smiles, laughter, victory, accomplishments... Those are some of the words and things that will be remembered from today's game.

The kids who played in the challenger league today gave it there all and most importantly had fun doing it.

"I had so much fun"... "What was your favorite part?"..."Catching the ball," says Jacob Cantiell.

"My favorite part from today was running, and yeah pulling flags," says Luke Molchan

As for the parents cheering from the stands it'll be a day they'll never forget.

Megan Noin says, "As a parent, today's event has been a wonderful experience for our kids. I'm so proud of all the Pop Warner and JV football players who came out to support them."

All of this couldn't have been possible without the volunteers, and Reno High School along with Bishop Manogue's Football Programs.

The athletes even got their own jerseys with Reno High School's colors on the front and Bishop Manogue's on the back.

"When you get them down and teach them about the basics of football, of running and just being active and having them get it and their eyes light up. When they get the feel of the grass, and get to touch the ball and run for a touchdown. It gives me goose bumps," says Joe Collazo the Defensive Coordinator for the JV Program at Reno High.

Gary Archie the President of Reno Pop Warner says, "Just a great day for these kids and the families, and Bishop Manogue High School and Reno High for putting this all together for us. Thank you."
