ORIGINAL STORY (12/19/2024, 1:30 p.m.):
Thank you for your support Friday morning, as our team at 2 News Nevada competed for the title of The Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell Ringing Media Champions at Scheels.
We rang the bells and collected many donations inside Scheel's front entrance today from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Â
If you want to support our team but weren't able to make it to Scheels today, you can still make a donation until 6 p.m. tonight to our online kettle by clicking this link, or scanning the QR code below:
We're competing against KOLO 8 and NEWS 4 for bragging rights, but all of the donations that are collected all day today will go to The Salvation Army.
The friendly competition between northern Nevada's three local news stations raises money for The Salvation Army to help people in need to put food on their table and gifts under their tree.Â
All donations received go towards The Salvation Army's services which include their food pantry, adult rehabilitation programs, social services, disaster services, and youth programs, along with toys for kids and coats for the homeless.
2 News Nevada finished in second place in 2023, less than $30 off the number one spot with $3,378.23 raised. $2,037.23 of that came from in-person donations, while $1,341 came from virtual donations.
While 2 News Nevada finished second, we did come out on top in donations made in person by a margin of more than $459.
This friendly competition among all three local stations raised more than $9,600 in 2023; with your support, we could increase those numbers and help even more families in 2024 during this holiday season.
We will post today's donations totals as soon as they are announced.
Thank you again for watching and supporting our 2 News Nevada Team and for your many donations to the Salvation Army.Â
