Officials with the University of Nevada, Reno want to give the public an update on the Gateway precinct that's being transformed as a part of the university's Master Plan.

They said a part of that will be a new, seven-level parking garage, adding more than 800 spaces.

Officials said the Gateway Parking Complex will be at the south end of campus. They said there will be a pedestrian bridge connecting to the fourth story.

They said construction will begin this fall and is estimated to be completed in spring 2022. It's planned to be 250,000 square feet and is estimated to cost $33.2 million. Officials said the cost of the complex will be paid with funds the university receives from parking permit sales.

Officials said the university issues more than 10,000 permits annually, with a surplus of 1,300 permits. The projected student and faculty growth indicate that by 2021, that number will drop to a surplus of 600 permits.
