Pet Owners Look to Spruce Up Reno Dog Park

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is looking for volunteers to help with the Virginia Lake Dog Park.

In an email blast, the foundation says 150 tons of decomposed granite ground cover needs to be spread throughout the park. A ‘spreading party' will be held this Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the park.

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation organized the park's recent facelift, after local municipalities cut their budgets because of the recession.

Phase 1 of the project included new walkways, new groundcover, and other infrastructure improvements, while the second phase includes new benches, a shade cover, water fountains and even a dog agility course.

The total cost of the project is between $100,000 and $120,000.

Silverwing Development, which is building an apartment complex across the lake, are the ones in charge of the remodel which was funded entirely by donations.
